About Phly Crew

Founders of ‘Phly Crew’, the ever enthusiastic James Barry (JB) and Neale Whittaker founded this unique hip hop crew when performing together at Luna Park Sydney.
Both JB and Neale attended full-time dance courses at Urban Dance Centre and Ev& Bow Full-Time Dance Training Centre respectively, not only extending their experience and exposure to various styles of dance but also taking the time to create their own fresh fusion of Hip hop which makes ‘Phly crew’ so eclectic. This fresh, phly style also earned JB and Neale places in the top 100 of season 3 ‘So You Think You Can Dance’.
Recently ‘Phly Crew’ have performed alongside international hip hop artist DJ Besho and entertained audiences in Sydney’s CBD where they frequently perform in the street. These performances can also be seen in the well received ‘Phlytube episodes’ on ‘YouTube’ (PHLYTUBE Season.1 Ep.1 Buskalong!)
JB and Neale endevour to take Phly crew to new heights, entertaining audiences of all ages and teaching aspiring dancers to be ‘So Phly’.
About JB ...
James Barry (JB) the only 6”5’ dancer you'll ever come across who can take musical theatre and hip hop and blend them into a beautiful mesh style that he calls his own. He started honing his skill in Foster at age 13 learning every style of hip hop he could as well as developing and mastering his own eclectic style.
Attending ‘Urban Dance Centre’ in 2009 JB received his certificate IV in performing arts and in the same year made it into the ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ top 100 season 3. Recently JB has choreographed for international artists ‘Dasaev’ From Russia working on there music video for ‘Teledemocracy’.
Known for his performance antics JB has been seen performing regularly around Sydney from podium dancing at nightclubs to ‘Luna Park’ beach party performances. Performing is not the only talent possessed by this friendly giant, he has also spent a lot of time teaching workshops and regular classes at dance schools all around N.S.W teaching people of varying ages his new phly style. JB knows his stuff, not only having a great depth of knowledge in hip hop dance but also rapping with an original Australian group.
Outside of dance JB loves to surf. Growing up on the coast he found it relaxing to go back home and get a few waves with old friends. Though performing and dancing are basically his life and life for him at the moment is as good as it gets!
About Neale ...
Neale’s dance adventure took off with great pace after he graduated from ‘Ev&Bow Full-Time Dance Training Centre’ in 2008 with a certificate IV in Performing Arts. Neale leapt right out of full-time into Natalie Bassingthwaight’s music video ‘Someday Soon’, receiving great feedback from Bassingthwaight herself. From here to the present day Neale has had an array of experience performing at ‘Compass Contemporary Dance Festival’ as choreographer and dancer, busking frequently in Sydney where he has become a well known act, and acting as larikan Mike Costa in ‘A Chorus Line’, a character very suited to his light-hearted, enthusiastic personality.
Recently Neale has been featured on the ‘Cadbury chocolate’ television commercial, performed at the launch of the new ABC TV channel, ‘ABC3’ and appears as a featured extra on ‘Dance Academy’.
Neale’s talents and interests also extend to choreography, teaching young children the phly new style he has developed, and assisting Sarah Boulter in her choreography for ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, in which he also made it to the top 100 contestants in the country.
Neale has his finger in pretty much everything to do with dance and music. He enjoys nothing more than chilling on the beach playing the guitar, singing in the car and embarrassing his friends by dancing in public.
